The Gateway Grizzlies and the Richmond Roosters combined for 26 runs, 29 hits and six errors in a game won by the Grizzlies 15-11 Saturday night in front of 4,889 at GMC Stadium.
The Grizzlies are 10-19. The Roosters are 13-16.
Phil Warren and Brandon Averill each contributd five RBIs on the night. Warren was 3-5 with a home run and two two-run doubles. Averill was 2-4 with an RBI single and a grand slam. Ben Margalski and Mike Breyman each had two RBIs on the night. Margalski was 3-4. Breyman was 2-4.
Nick Szcsur (2-0) picked up the win for the Grizzlies. Szcsur went the first five-plus innings. He allowed six runs, five earned. He struck out three. Melhville High School and University of Missouri product Erik Dessau went 3 2/3 innings in relief. He gave up five runs, three earned. He struck out four. Dessau was making his pro debut. Ryan Hamilton pitched the final 1/3 inning.
The Grizzlies and Roosters will play the rubber match Sunday evening. Start time is 6:05 p.m.
