Richmond Roosters News Release
Richmond, Indiana - The Roosters won their fourth straight game, 8-6 against Gateway on Friday. They have now won six out of the last seven games including the sweep at home against Windy City. Richmond scored all of their runs in just two innings for the second game in a row by getting timely hits with runners on base. Matt Huskey made his Rooster debut against the Grizzlies, getting the nod as starting pitcher.
Jimmy Reiter led off the game for the Grizzlies with a solo home run to right field to give Gateway a 1-0 lead. The Roosters came back in the top of the fourth when Mike Bidwell hit his first professional homerun over the short wall in right. Tony Sanguinetti and Ty Herriott scored on the homer to take the lead away from Gateway 3-1. The Grizzlies got within a run at 3-2 in the bottom of the inning when Mike Breyman scored on fielders choice hit by Oscar Vargas.
Richmond was able to tack on a few more runs in the fifth. Kevin White had a 2 RBI double to score Nate Gravley and Mike Reese, Josh Hollingsworth singled to score Joe Cuervo and Tony Sanguinetti doubled to center to score Hollingsworth and White. The Roosters scored five runs in the inning to boost the lead to 8-2.
The Grizzlies tried to rally after the big Richmond inning. Phil Warren hit a single up the middle to score Gary Gilbert and Ben Margalski in the fifth and cut the lead to 8-4. Gateway then hit two solo homers in the sixth. One came from Oscar Vargas and the other came from Reiter, his second of the game, to draw within two runs at 8-6. Richmond would shut the door however, holding Gateway scoreless in the last two innings for the win.
Richmond (13-15) has two games left in the series against Gateway (8-20). Curt Moenter (1-1, 3.64 ERA) will get the start against Nick Szczur (1-0, 9.95 ERA). Game time is scheduled for 7:05pm (Indiana time).
