Piche Traded to Tampa Bay in Three-Team Deal

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday traded defenseman Sebastien Piche to the Tampa Bay Lightning as part of a three-team deal with the Colorado Avalanche. Tampa Bay sent forward Steve Downie to Colorado in exchange for former Griffins defenseman Kyle Quincey, who was then traded to Detroit for a first round pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft and Piche.
A native of La Sarre, Quebec, Piche has skated in 22 games for Grand Rapids this season, recording three assists and 18 penalty minutes, and he notched five assists in 42 career games with the Griffins from 2009-12. The 24-year-old also has 17 goals and 44 assists in 94 career games with the ECHL's Toledo Walleye.
Quincey returns to Detroit's organization after being drafted in the fourth round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft and spending three seasons with the Griffins from 2005-08. In 201 career AHL games, Quincey tallied 75 points (16-59 - 75) and 382 penalty minutes, adding one assist and 27 penalty minutes in 18 postseason contests. After being claimed off waivers by Los Angeles prior to the 2008-09 season, Quincey spent one season with the Kings and three with the Colorado Avalanche. He has 92 points (16-76 - 92) in 239 career NHL games.
Grand Rapids will host Hamilton on Wednesday at 7 p.m., before playing back-to-back games against Lake Erie on Friday at 7 p.m. and Toronto on Saturday at 5 p.m. Tickets are available at griffinshockey.com.
