Philyaw rides consistency to AFL Offensive Player of the Month award

Kansas City Brigade News Release
KANSAS CITY - It's easy in Arena Football for a quarterback to find his rhythm and get on a streak. Kansas City Brigade signal caller Raymond Philyaw played in that kind of zone for the entire month of May. The Brigade posted its first winning quarter of the season (3-1) behind Philyaw, whose consistent success earned him the Arena Football League Offensive Player of the Month award.
Philyaw (6-1, 200 lbs, Northeast Louisiana State) completed 102 of 144 attempts (71.4%) for 1,262 yards with 27 touchdowns and zero interceptions in four games. He threw for a Brigade record 411 yards against the New York Dragons on May 20, the fourth-highest total in the league this season. Philyaw also broke single-game franchise records for completions (36), completion percentage (87.8%), and passing touchdowns (9) in the month.
He has reset all of the Brigade single-season passing records and ranks in the top ten in seven league statistical categories, including third in interceptions (7), fourth in quarterback rating (125.6) and completion percentage (70.2%), sixth in completions (288), seventh in passing yards (3372), and eighth in touchdown passes (62).
Philyaw, who is always praising his teammates, especially his sturdy offensive line, is exactly the kind of leader Brigade head coach Kevin Porter has been counting on to help improve on the team's inaugural season. He is no stranger to winning, as he took the Chicago Rush to back-to-back American Conference title games in 2004-05. With record-setting young receivers and a playmaking defense, Philyaw and the Brigade are now on the verge of a playoff berth in only the team's second year of existence.
