
Dietz and Marler win AFL honors

TAMPA BAY - The Arena Football League has announced that quarterback Brett Dietz and kicker Seth Marler have been named Rookie and Kicker of the Month, respectively, for their performances during the month of May.
Dietz, 6-foot-4, 220-pounds, is a rookie out of Hanover College. He completed 100-of-143 passes for 1,093 yards with 21 touchdowns and six interceptions during his first full month as a starting quarterback in the AFL. Dietz led all rookies in passing yards and touchdowns during the month while guiding the Storm to a season-best 3-1 monthly record. His most consistent performance of the month came in a 66-45 victory over the Austin Wranglers as he completed 26-of-32 passes for 287 yards and five touchdowns.
Marler, 6-1, 200-pounds, is a former Lou Groza Award winner out of Tulane University. In the midst of his rookie season he connected on 26-of-27 PATs and converted a League-best 5-of-6 field goal attempts for 41 total points during the month of May. He was an integral part of Tampa Bay's turn around as the Storm (5-7) posted a 3-1 record in May. Marler had his best performance in a 66-45 victory over the Austin Wranglers on May 6 as he converted 9-of-9 PATs and a 25-yard field goal.
"This is a nice honor for Brett and Seth, as well as for our team," said Storm Head Coach and General Manager Tim Marcum. "They both have worked real hard and are each continuing to develop as the season progresses."
Other monthly winners included Kansas City Brigade's quarterback Raymond Philyaw (Offensive Player), Orlando Predators lineman Greg White (ADT Defensive) and Chicago Rush's DeJuan Alphonso (Ironman).
Wide receiver/linebacker Lawrence Samuels and defensive back Jeroid Johnson were candidates for Ironman of the Month and ADT Defensive Player of the Month.
