
Phillies Sign Surf Southpaw Crowell

The Atantic City Surf announced Wednesday that the Philadelphia Phillies have purchased the contract of lefthanded starting pitcher Jim Crowell. Crowell will report to the Phillies Triple-A affiliate, Scranton-Wilkes Barre, on Friday.
Crowell was 8-4 with a 4.17 ERA for the Surf and was third in the league in strikeouts with 95. Crowell started 19 games for the Surf and led the staff in innings worked with 108. Crowell struck out 95 while only walking 54.
"We are happy for Jimmy,'''' Surf general manager Mario Perrucci said. "He was a big part of our success. But this is what the league is all about. We wish him well with the Phillies organization.''''
