Pheasants Post Record 61st Win in 2010

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Sioux Falls Pheasants breaking a record sounds like a broken record this year. But the team record set tonight may be the most convincing evidence thus far that the 2010 Pheasants are the best team ever in Sioux Falls.
The Pheasants cruised to a 6-1 win over the St. Paul Saints on Thursday night, busting the club record of 60 wins in a season. The 2008 championship squad had 60 victories. The Pheasants have the best mark in the American Association at 61-32 this year. The victory moved the first-place Pheasants up a full game ahead of the Wichita Wingnuts in the second-half division race. The Wingnuts were idle on Thursday.
Beau Torbert broke the league record for hits in a season with a base hit to left field in the third inning. It was his 149th of the season, surpassing Jorge Alvarez' record set in 2007. Torbert added an encore with a solo home run in the seventh inning, his 23rd of the year. He finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and continued to court a .400 average for the season. With three games remaining, he leads the league with a .395 average.
Gus Milner snapped a scoreless tie with a triple flared to shallow right field, perfectly plopped far away from the Saints defense. Brandon Sing scored, and the Pheasants never lost the lead. Reggie Abercrombie and Joe Anthonsen also provided run-scoring hits in the middle innings. Anthonsen chipped in a sacrifice fly in the eighth for a 6-1 lead. He was 3-for-4 with two RBI.
Ben Moore (11-8) coasted to his 11th win in his final start of the regular season. He carved up the Saints' lineup over seven innings, striking out nine and allowing just three hits. His only blemish was a solo home run to Josh Burrus in the seventh inning. Moore lowered his league-leading ERA to 3.10 and raised his league-best strikeout total to 126.
Brandon Rapoza and Ryan Grant each pitched a scoreless inning of relief to close out the game. Just twice did a Saints' baserunner reach second base.
Saints starter Kyle Foster (2-7) took the loss, giving up four runs (three earned) in six innings.
