St. Paul Saints News Release

SIOUX FALLS, SD (August 26, 2010) - The St. Paul Saints couldn't do much against the league's strikeout leader, Ben Moore, and managed just four hits in a 6-1 loss to the Sioux Falls Pheasants at Sioux Falls Stadium on Thursday night.

The Saints managed just on hit through four innings, a two out single by Brandon Carter in the third. They struck out at least once in six of the seven innings Moore pitched, including all three in the sixth inning. The only run they got off Moore was a solo homer by Josh Burrus in the seventh, his seventh of the season. Moore went 7.0 innings allowing one run on three hits while walking two and striking out nine.

The Pheasants took a 1-0 lead in the second when Brandon Sing singled and stole second. He scored on a two-out triple by Gus Milner.

It stayed that way until the fifth when Joe Anthonsen singled and stole second. Tim Hutting walked and Reggie Abercrombie's double scored Anthonsen to make it 2-0. A wild pitch scored Hutting for a 3-0 lead.

In the sixth Milner reached on a throwing error by third baseman Hector Bernal and advanced to third on a single by Will Richards. Anthonsen knocked in Richards to give the Pheasants a 4-0 lead.

The front runner for the league's Player of the Year Award, Beau Torbert, hit his 23rd homer of the season, a solo shot to left in the seventh to make it 5-1, more than enough to do in the Saints.

The Saints and Pheasants play game two of the four game series on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. at Sioux Falls Stadium. The Saints send RHP Zach Peterson (6-6, 3.77) to the mound against Pheasants LHP Chris Salberg (11-1, 3.21). The game can be heard on Relevant Radio 1330.
