The Phantoms carry a four-game winning streak into their upcoming weekend of three consecutive away games in three days. Adirondack travels to Springfield, Albany and Bridgeport back-to-back for their first "three-in-three" of the season.
The Phantoms are coming a terrific and perfect 3-0 homestand to quickly rise in the standings. The fantastic week concluded Saturday night with a postgame photo session on the ice with all the players. Hundreds of fans lined up for pics and also took advantage of the opportunity to congratulate the guys on their impressive run of wins.
Adirondack is now at the beginning of a long stretch in which they don't have any home games for awhile. The Phantoms' most recent game in Glens Falls was November 2 and the team does not return for a home game until November 22. The 20-day gap is the longest the Phantoms will go without a home game in the 2013-14 regular season.
Penalty Kill Dominance
Perhaps the biggest key for the Phantoms' recent success and their winning streak might be the penalty kill. Adirondack has now killed 17 in a row dating back to the first period on October 26 at Binghamton when the streak began. The Phantoms are also 25-for-26 in their last six games.
Overall, the Phantoms are at 88% on the penalty kill this season which rates third in the league out of 30 teams trailing only Norfolk (90%) and Texas (88.5%).
On home ice, the Phantoms shorthanded-crew are unblemished. It's a perfect 25-for-25 for their penalty-kill at the Glens Falls Civic Center. Adirondack is the only team who can say that.
Streaking!
The Phantoms four-game win streak is their longest since February 25 through March 3 of 2012. That streak a couple seasons ago was also a four-gamer. It is the fifth time in the history of the Adirondack Phantoms to win four consecutive games. Friday night, the Adirondack Phantoms search their first ever five-game win streak.
The last time the Phantoms won five in a row or more was in March of 2009 when the Philadelphia Phantoms strung together six straight as part of an eight-game unbeaten-in-regulation streak (7-0-1). The all-time franchise record was a 17-game winning streak in 2004-05 which also was the longest ever in th eAmerican Hockey League until the Norfolk Admirals 28-game win streak two seasons ago.

Saratoga Spine Player of the Week - Cal Heeter
Cal Heeter is our Saratoga Spine Player of the Week for the second consecutive week. Although while we observed him to be number 1 this week we might also mention some significant 1a finishers such as Petr Straka (two goals on Saturday) and Kris Newbury (four-game point streak with two goals).
But Heeter was magnificent again in winning his second and third games in a row on Wednesday and Friday. From Saturday, October 26 through Friday, November 1 Heeter was gone 3-0 with a 1.00 and a .971 saves percentage with 98 stops on 101 shots faced. The second-year-pro out of Ohio State then went onto celebrate his 25th birthday on Saturday, November 2.
Heeter allowed exactly one goal in each of his wins and made several huge saves at clutch times when the Phantoms were protecting a one-goal lead.

Wednesday, October 30: Adirondack Phantoms 2 - Springfield Falcons 1
Adirondack broke a scoreless tie with five minutes left in the second period on a lucky deflection. Kris Newbury's shot on the power play went off the stick of a Springfield defenseman in the slot and into the goal to get the Phantoms on the board. Chris VandeVelde's second of the year extended the lead with over seven minutes remaining. Lukas Sedlak scored a minute later to break up Cal Heeter's bid for a shutout.
Cal Heeter made 27 saves on 28 shots for the win while Jeremy Smith took the loss with 28 saves on 30 shots. The Phantoms held Springfield to 0-for-6 on the power play which included a crucial 6-on-4 kill in the last minute of the game. Patrick McNeil hit the post for Springfield with 34 seconds remaining as the Falcons came inches away from tying the score late.
Friday, November 1: Adirondack Phantoms 3 - Binghamton Senators 1
Cal Heeter and the Adirondack Phantoms would knock off the Binghamton Senators for the second time in a week and by an identical 3-1 score. Tye McGinn scores a pair of goals for the Phantoms before being recalled by Philadelphia later that night. Kris Newbury added a late empty-netter to seal the win. Cal Heeter earned #1 Star yet again with 37 saves. Binghamton outshot the Phantoms 38-23 including 15-6 in a dominant second period. But they were unable to solve Heeter except for a late goal by Buddy Robinson shorthanded with about five minutes remaining that broke up Heeter's shutout.
Saturday, November 2: Adirondack Phantoms 3 - Albany Devils 1
Petr Straka scored the first two goals of his professional career and Yann Danis seemed to pick up right where Cal Heeter had left off. Straka opened the scoring a couple minutes in via a pretty give-and-go with Nick Cousins on a two-on-one. Just one period after saving the puck of his first career pro goal, Straka would score again scooping up the rebound of a Mark Alt slapshot. Chris VandeVelde's deflection of a Kris Newbury slapshot gave the Phantoms a 3-0 lead by the second intermission as Adirondack was dominating all aspects of the game and outshooting the Devils 27-13.
Albany put on a late charge and outshot Adirondack 13-3 in the final period and also scored their only goal of the night a couple minutes into the final frame on Mike Hoeffel's tally. But otherwise veteran goalie Yann Danis held down the fort with 25 big saves for the team's fourth straight win.

After losing at Adirondack last Wednesday, the Falcons bounced back with consecutive 3-2 wins over the Hartford Wolf Pack on Friday and Saturday. Springfield's 15 standings points put them just three ahead of Adirondack entering the Phantoms' first trip to Western Mass this season.
The Phantoms are 1-0-1 in the season series against the Falcons. This is Game 3 out of 8 in the season series.Springfield's defense is fourth in the AHL and second in the Eastern Conference allowing just 2.3 goals per game.
Albany Devils (5-5-1) - Affiliation, New Jersey Devils
Saturday, November 9 (5:00) - Times Union Center, Albany, NY
The Devils started the season 5-1-1 but have dropped four straight since then including back-to-back defeats to Norfolk (3-0) and Adirondack (3-1) last week. Albany just received goalie Keith Kinkaid back from New Jersey when the former Union College talent was serving as Martin Brodeur's backup for the past two-and-a-half weeks while Corey Schneider was on the shelf with injury. Kinkaid has played in four games for Albany this year going 2-1-1, 1.97, .912.
Albany's offense is dead-last in the Eastern Conference and 28th overall in the AHL scoring just 2.27 goals per game. Former Florida Panthers' prospect Scott Timmins is paired on a line with former Boston College standout Joe Whitney and are tied for the team lead in scoring at 5-6-11 each.
Adirondack and Albany are tied at 1-1 in the season series. This is Game 3 out of 12 for the Northway Rivalry.
Bridgeport Sound Tigers (3-5-1) - Affiliation, New York Islanders
Sunday, November 10 (3:00) - Webster Bank Arena, Bridgeport, CT
The Phantoms face Bridgeport for the first time this season on Sunday afternoon. The Sound Tigers got off to a weak 1-5-1 start but poured on the offense last weekend with back-to-back wins of 7-1 over Worcester and 4-3 over Norfolk in a shootout.
Ryan Strome was the #5 overall selection in the 2011 NHL Draft out of Niagara of the OHL and has scored 3-11-14 so far in his first full pro season including an impressive 2-3-5 last Friday. His 14 points are second among AHL rookies trailing only league leader Nikita Kucherov of Syracuse who has 20 points. Undrafted MIke Halmo in his second pro season has scored 6-4-10.
Bridgeport's defense and goaltending have been shaky. The Sound Tigers are 29th in the AHL and last in the Eastern Conference allowing 3.78 goals per game.

25 Terrific Seasons
Glens Falls is celebrating its 25th season hosting an AHL team and in so doing now joins an elite group of only 12 other cities who can make such a claim. It's a great hockey tradition with an old-school feel that began with the Adirondack Red Wings in 1979 who won four Calder Cups in their 20-year run at the GFCC. The Adirondack Phantoms began play in Glens Falls in 2009-2010 and are in their fifth season in the North Country.
