Youngstown Phantoms News Release

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Youngstown Phantoms returned to their winning ways this past weekend in Nebraska, getting the first wins over the Tri-City Storm and the Omaha Lancers in franchise history. The Phantoms (6-2-0) are back against the United States Hockey League Eastern Conference this week and will face the Muskegon Lumberjacks in Michigan Friday before returning to the Mahoning Valley to host the Indiana Ice on Saturday.

The Week In Review

Game 7: Phantoms Blow Away Tri-City 5-1

Goaltender Sean Romeo got his first start of the season for the Phantoms and looked at home turning away 42 of 43 shots from the Storm. The Phantoms got goals from five different players - Pat Conte, Dylan Margonari, Mike Gunn, Ryan Belonger and Jordan Young - and converted on three of their seven power plays in the convincing win.

Game 8: Margonari's Hat Trick Leads Phantoms To 5-1 Win Over Lancers

The Phantoms fell behind early Saturday night against the Lancers, but exploded for four goals in the second period to take the lead and hold it against Omaha. Margonari netted a hat trick and JT Stenglein and Todd Koritzinsky each scored their second goals of the season to give the Phantoms the sweep in the Cornhusker State.

Loose Pucks

-- The Phantoms took two of the three USHL weekly awards, which were announced on Monday. Center Dylan Margonari was named CCM Offensive Player of the Week for his four-goal weekend and defenseman Jordan Young earned CCM Defensive Player of the Week honors after recording a goal and an assist over the two games.

-- With a record of 6-2-0 through eight games this season, the Youngstown Phantoms are off to the best start in the three-year history of the franchise.

-- Head Coach Anthony Noreen has been confident in goaltender Sean Romeo's abilities from the onset of the season, but after this weekend, the rest of the league should take notice. The 17-year-old saved 59 of 62 shots he faced in his first two career victories. He and Matthew O'Connor give the Phantoms two excellent options in net.

-- Both center Austin Cangelosi and defenseman Chris Bradley will miss the Phantoms' next five games while they are representing Team USA at the World Junior A Challenge in Langley, British Columbia. Former Phantoms defenseman and second-round draft pick of the NHL's New York Islanders Scott Mayfield played for Team USA in the Challenge last season and came away with the tournament's Most Valuable Player award.

-- Left wing Todd Koritzinsky, playing in just his third game of the season, scored the second goal of his USHL career last Saturday in Omaha. The Middleton, Wis. native could have a great opportunity to secure a spot in the starting lineup over the next two weekends while Cangelosi is representing his country.

The Week Ahead

Game 9: Friday Nov. 4 - Phantoms @ Muskegon at 7:15 p.m. EST

The Phantoms make their first trip to Muskegon on Friday to take on the Lumberjacks (3-5-0). Last season, Muskegon's first in the USHL, the Phantoms went 2-4-1 against the 'Jacks with defenseman Jordan Young leading the way with six assists against the Eastern Conference rival. Fans can expect a hard-hitting affair at L.C. Walker Arena as Muskegon and Youngstown rank No. 1 and 2 in the USHL respectively when it comes to penalty minutes.

Game 10: Saturday Nov. 5 - Phantoms vs. Indiana at 7:15 p.m. EST

Staying undefeated at the Covelli Center will be no easy task for the Phantoms on Saturday when they host Indiana. The Ice (6-2-0) have three players among the USHL's top 15 scorers, including forward Daniil Tarasov, who currently leads the league with 14 points this season. Although the Ice took the season series in 2010-2011, Phantoms captain Mike Ambrosia racked up four goals and 10 points in seven games between the teams.

They Said It

"Our first line has carried us long enough and far enough and other guys need to step up and fill the void when they don't. They did all weekend long. It seemed like it was always different guy stepping up and making the play."

-- Head Coach Anthony Noreen on getting goals from seven different players in the wins over Tri-City and Omaha.

Phantoms Alumni Watch

-- Former Phantoms winger Ty Loney (2009-2011) recorded a two assists in a pair of games for Denver over the weekend against Michigan Tech.
