May 10, 2022 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Youngstown Phantoms News Release
The Youngstown Phantoms have acquired Jack Willson and Sam Scheetz from the Omaha Lancers, completing the trade deadline deal that was made in February. In this deal, the Phantoms also added Garrett Wright, a 2022 2nd round Phase II draft pick and a 2023 4th round Phase II draft pick.
Willson, a 2005 left-shot, puck-moving defenseman, is committed to the University of Michigan and most recently played for the Compuware 16U team that won the State Championship in Michigan and participated in the USA Hockey National tournament in April. Prior to that, Willson won a National Championship at the 15U level with Honeybaked, while playing for Phantoms Co-GM, Jason Deskins. Willson was originally a 2021 4th round Phase I selection of the Lancers.
Scheetz, a 2005 left-wing, played for Chaska High School in Minnesota this past season where he led his team in goals (22) and points (40) in 28 games. Scheetz was originally a 2021 9th round Phase I selection of the Lancers.
As the final part of the deal, Youngstown sent forward Chase Pirtle to the Lancers. Pirtle played one game this season for the Phantoms, the final game of the USHL Fall Classic against Waterloo, before returning to finish out the season with the New Jersey Rockets 16U team.
Phantoms Co-GM, Jason Deskins stated "We are excited to finalize the deal with Omaha by adding Jack and Sam. Jack brings a high hockey IQ, elite puck patience and shot, and competes his tail off. Sam can absolutely fly and just puts the puck in the net. We have added two vital pieces for our future in these players and we look forward to seeing them at camp in July."
The Phantoms kick off their main camp from July 11th-17th in Pittsburgh, at PrintScape Arena.
