MIDDLETON, Wisc. - Muskegon Lumberjacks forward Joey Larson scored a pair of goals, but none was bigger than his overtime game-winner as the Jacks came back to defeat the Madison Capitols by a final score of 4-to-3 and take a 2-1 series lead in the best-of-five Eastern Conference Final on Monday, May 9, 2022, from Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena. Jack Williams and Noah Ellis added extra Muskegon lamplighters, with Ellis' game-tying goal with under three minutes to play in regulation. Muskegon never held the lead until Larson's overtime winner and had to come back from multiple one-goal deficits. With the 2-1 series lead in the best-of-five, the Lumberjacks are one win away from advancing to the Clark Cup Final.

1st Period

With just 13 seconds left in the opening period of Game 3, the Capitols struck with a late goal from Quinn Finley to give Madison the 1-to-0 lead. Finley's second goal of the playoffs was assisted by Luke Mittelstadt.

Through 20 minutes of Game 3, the Capitols led 1-to-0 going into the first intermission.

2nd Period

Just over two minutes into the second period, Muskegon's Joey Larson tied the game 1-to-1 with his second playoff goal.

The Capitols would restore the one-goal advantage 7:08 into the second with Casey Severo's second playoff goal to make it a 2-to-1 game for Madison. Severo's goal was assisted by Barrett Brooks.

The Lumberjacks would tie the game a second time, this time from captain Jack Williams at 13:55 of the second period. Williams' fourth playoff goal was assisted by Jacob Guevin.

At the conclusion of two periods of action, both teams skated to a 2-to-2 tie heading into the final period of regulation.

3rd Period

The Capitols would get the lead back, courtesy of Tyler Hasking 54 seconds into the third period. Haskins' second playoff goal was unassisted.

With just under three minutes of regulation, Muskegon's Noah Ellis scored the equalizer at 13:04 to tie the game 3-to-3. Ellis' third goal of the playoffs went unassisted.

For the second consecutive game, both teams needed at least one extra period to decide the winner of Game 3.

Overtime

Unlike Game 2, it would be the Lumberjacks to come out victoriously in Game 3, off of the game-winning goal from Joey Larson to win the game for Muskegon and give the Lumberjacks the 2-1 series lead.

On Deck

The Lumberjacks return to Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Area for Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Final on Tuesday, May 10. Puck drop is scheduled for 8:00 pm EDT in Wisconsin. If the series ends up going the distance, Game 5 (if necessary) will be back in Muskegon on Thursday, May 12 at 7:00 pm EDT from Mercy Health Arena. The Eastern Conference Final is a best-of-five format, meaning a team needs to win three games in the series to advance to the Clark Cup Final.

$5 Tickets

The Muskegon Lumberjacks are making a serious run for the first Clark Cup championship in team history, and they need all of their fans to get behind them as they make their final push! That's why the Jacks will dramatically discount ticket prices for any remaining home playoff games, starting with Game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals on Thursday at 7 p.m., if that game is necessary. All seats will be marked down to $5 for that game on a first-come, first-serve basis, as well as the two home games the Jacks would host in the Clark Cup finals on May 20 and 21, if they advance to that round.
