Phantoms Bantam AA Team to Skate in Silver Stick Tournament
January 23, 2015 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Youngstown Phantoms News Release
YOUNGSTOWN, OH- The Youngstown Phantoms Bantam AA youth team will be participating in this weekend's International Silver Sticks Tournament, which takes place in Port Huron, MI. The tournament consists of the top Tier-2 teams in the United States and Canada.
"Coming from a small town hockey market, our players understand what an accomplishment this is," remarked team manager John Elias. "They are excited to go to Port Huron and represent the organization, the Mahoning Valley and themselves to the best of their ability."
It was a difficult road for the Phantoms to get to Silver Stick, as they competed against 12 other teams from the Mid-American Region, and ultimately made the Regional Final against the Steel City Ice Renegades, a team out of Pittsburgh. Despite losing in the Final, they were awarded a spot in the Silver Stick Tournament based on their outstanding play in that game.
The Phantoms are members of the Pittsburgh Amateur Hockey League (PAHL), and currently boast an overall record of 26-9-4. They are currently ranked 57th in the country, out of over 1000 other Bantam AA teams
The Phantoms are set to play a pair of games on Friday and one on Saturday. Depending on the results of the games Friday and Saturday, the Phantoms will be reseeded for Sunday's competition.
