PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Phantoms and the American Hockey League today announced the league's schedule format for the 2008-09 season. The Phantoms, embarking on their 13th season of competition in the AHL, will be challenged with a heavy intrastate schedule and will battle a total of 17 different teams.
The Phantoms will play an equal number of home and road games in each season series, with the majority finding an emphasis on divisional rivalries. In the case of the Phantoms, 54 games of the 80-game season will be played against East Division foes. The Phantoms will play a 12-game series against Hershey and a 10 game set with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Philadelphia will face off eight times each with Albany, Binghamton, Bridgeport and Norfolk.
Outside of the East Division, the Phantoms will have four games against Lowell and will play a home-and-home series with the other six teams in the New England-based Atlantic Division. Philadelphia will play 10 games against the Western Conference, coming in the form of home-and-home series with North Division clubs Hamilton, Lake Erie and Toronto. Meanwhile, the Phantoms will see Grand Rapids four times during the course of the 2008-09 campaign.
Specific dates of games will be announced when the AHL releases its 2008-09 schedule in early August.
