Phantoms and Lancers Swap Forwards
February 26, 2022 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Youngstown Phantoms News Release
Youngstown, OH - The Youngstown Phantoms have acquired USHL veteran Garrett Wright from the Omaha Lancers, a 2022 2nd round Phase II draft pick, and a 4th round 2023 Phase II draft pick in exchange for Evan Werner, a 2023 7th round draft Phase II, and future considerations.
Wright, who hails from Mesa, Arizona, spent parts of the past two seasons in Omaha. Wright was leading the Lancers in scoring this season with 12 goals and 17 assists for 29 points in 40 games. Before his time in Omaha, Wright spent two years in the Western Hockey League with the Regina Pats and Moose Jaw Warriors. Wright came up with the Phoenix Jr Coyotes and the Anaheim Jr Ducks and was a prolific scorer for those programs.
Phantoms Co-GM's Jason Deskins and Ryan Kosecki stated, "We would like to thank Evan for his time in Youngstown. We wish him well in Omaha. It's never easy moving a skilled player, but sometimes you have to give a little to get what you need in return. We hope Evan has all the success he deserves with the Lancers and we appreciate his work while he was here with us."
Deskins and Kosecki added, "Garrett Wright is a welcomed addition to the team. We are excited to add a skilled goal scorer that can help us keep pace with the offensively-stout Eastern Conference of the USHL. Garrett has an elite release and can put the puck wherever he wants it to go. He catches goalies off guard with how quickly he gets the puck off of his stick. He will have a major impact on our team in many ways, especially on the power play. Garrett brings four years of junior hockey experience in some of the best leagues in the world to Youngstown. His presence in our locker room will add to our already changing culture and will help prepare our young players for what the expectations of being a "pro" are. We couldn't be happier to make Garrett a Phantom! He will be an invaluable asset to us in our pursuit of the playoffs."
