Youngstown Phantoms News Release

YOUNGSTOWN, OH - The Youngstown Phantoms announced the addition of forward Jason Cotton to the active roster Tuesday morning. The Parker, Texas native most recently played for Northeastern University (Hockey East), but will forgo the rest of this freshman year and join the Phantoms effective immediately. Cotton will reopen his college recruitment, and be eligible to return to college hockey at the end of the 2016 fall semester.

"I enjoyed my time at Northeastern University, but am very excited to start in the USHL with the Phantoms. Leaving NU has been the hardest decision I have ever made, but I feel that it's best for my hockey career to make this move. I wish all my teammates and coaches the best of luck as they continue their season. I'm excited for what the future holds in Youngstown and beyond," Cotton said.

Prior to attending Northeastern University, Cotton played junior hockey in both the USHL (Tri-City Storm) and the BCHL (West Kelowna Warriors). During both of his seasons with the Warriors, Cotton tallied 20+ goals and 60 points, playing above a point-per-game average.

"Jason is a big bodied, skilled center who should add another element of offensive production to our team. He has played three years of junior hockey previously, including two very productive offensive seasons in the BCHL," said Phantoms General Manager Jason Koehler.

Cotton will be active for the Phantoms for the upcoming weekend series against the Dubuque Fighting Saints. The 6'2, 200 pound forward has played both center and winger in the past. His brother, David, also plays in the USHL for the Waterloo Black Hawks.
