GENEVA, ILLINOIS - Chicago Steel defenseman Ruslan Rakhmatov (Moscow, Russia) has committed to play for Sacred Heart University (Atlantic Hockey Conference) in Fairfield, Conn. Rakhmatov, 20, is one of sixteen players on the Steel's active roster committed to an NCAA Division I hockey program, and is expected to join the Sacred Heart Pioneers for the 2016-2017 season.

The 6-0, 190-pound left-shot defender has appeared in 85 USHL regular season games over the course of three seasons, tallying eight goals and 20 assists in his time with the Steel, Waterloo Black Hawks and Des Moines Buccaneers. Rakhmatov was named CCM/USHL Defenseman of the Week on Nov. 30, 2015. The defenseman scored his second game-winning goal of the season in Chicago's 1-0 win this past Friday at Fargo.

"We are thrilled for Ruslan and his commitment to attend and play hockey at Sacred Heart University," said Steel head coach Dan Muse. "Ruslan has taken full advantage of his opportunity this year and has been a strong contributing member of the Chicago Steel both on and off the ice. Sacred Heart is a program on the rise with a great coaching staff and I know Ruslan will help them continue to rise and they will help him in his development."

Rakhmatov joins forward Marc Johnstone as Steel players committed to play at Sacred Heart for Pioneers head coach C.J. Marottolo.

"I am very happy to be headed to Sacred Heart," said Rakhmatov. "I think the school will be a good fit for me. I also want to thank everyone who made this possible."

Chicago concludes its season-long, 10-game road trip this weekend with visits to Madison Friday and Cedar Rapids on Saturday before returning to Fox Valley Ice Arena for a home game Sunday, Jan. 17 at 3 p.m. against Muskegon. This game will feature the unveiling of the team's new scoreboard during Mommy, Minions and Me Day.
