Youngstown Phantoms News Release
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Youngstown Phantoms have acquired the rights to forward Cameron Smith from the Potomac Patriots (USPHL-Elite), Director of Player Personnel Jason Koehler announced today.
"Cameron is a good, fast skater who came into our camp last summer as an undrafted free agent," said Koehler. "He did well, and has since skated with us a few times. We think he is a solid young player within our region, and we wanted give him an opportunity. We'd also like to thank head coach RJ Zeigler and the Potomac Patriots organization for working with us on this transaction."
Smith, 16, leaves Potomac as the Patriots' leading scorer, with 44 points in 33 games (25 goals, 19 assists). Measuring 5'8" and 150 pounds, he is committed to Dartmouth College for 2016-17.
"It's a dream come true for me to be joining the Phantoms," said Smith. "Being from the Washington, DC area, I followed and looked up to players like Sam Anas. It is especially exciting to be going to the team he played for. The Phantoms are home some of the best young talent in the USHL, and I am thrilled to have this opportunity."
The Arlington, Virginia native will finish the remainder of the 2013-14 season with the Phantoms as a full-time roster player.
