Petry Selected for Men's National Team

(Urbandale, IA) Former Des Moines Buccaneers defenseman Jeff Petry has been selected to compete for Team USA at next month's Men's World Championships in Belarus, USA Hockey announced on Tuesday. This is the third consecutive year that Petry has been a part of Team USA at the World Championships, appearing in 18 games and registering 5 points (2 goals, 3 assists).

The tournament runs from May 9th-May 25th.

He is one of the initial 15 players named to the roster which will be filled out in the coming weeks as more potential players get freed up with the end of their National Hockey League seasons.

Petry concluded his fourth professional season with the Edmonton Oilers this past weekend, appearing in 80 of 82 games. Since turning pro in the spring of 2010, Petry has played in 236 NHL games and has been regular in the Oilers' line-up for the last three seasons.

The Ann Arbor, MI native played for the Buccaneers from 2005-2007 and was known for having one of the best shots from the blue line the United States Hockey League has seen in a while. He played in 103 games scoring 19 goals, adding 41 assists and helped the Buccaneers win the 2006 Clark Cup. Just a few weeks ago in March, he was added to the Des Moines Buccaneers' Hall of Fame.

Following his Buccaneers' career, he played three seasons at Michigan State before entering the Oilers system, with whom he was drafted by in the 2nd round in 2006.

The Des Moines Buccaneers are prepping for their 35th anniversary season in the United States Hockey League. Since 1980, the Buccaneers have produced hundreds of NCAA Division I players and dozens of professional alumni.
