Erie Otters News Release

Owen Sound, Ontario - Short-term memory is an important skill to have in Major Junior Hockey, and the Erie Otters would hope to have that to their benefit for Sunday afternoon's game. After allowing five-unanswered third period goals from the Owen Sound Attack on Saturday night in an 8-5 loss, the Otters would look to continue to split weekend series with the Attack. Nolan Lalonde would get the nod back in net again, as the Otters would look to head home happy.

Erie would come out shooting in the opening period, taking nine of the first 11 shots. Despite this, it would be Owen Sound's shorthanded unit that would grab the game's first goal, as Servac Petrovksy (4) would strike 11:08 into the game on the team's third shot. From that point, Owen Sound would grab eight of the next 12 shots. Erie would get another power play opportunity late in the period, and it would be Colby Saganiuk (5) who would ensure Erie's power play their sixth goal in four games to make it a 1-1 game. Erie would outshoot Owen Sound 12-11 in the first in a 1-1 game.

The script would be flipped to start the second period, as this time around, it would be the Owen Sound Attack who would come out shooting heavily - taking the first seven shots of the period. With the shot advantage, Captain Colby Barlow (9) would put the Attack back on top 2-1 with 7:01 gone by in the second. Just past the halfway mark of the game, Erie's captain Cameron Morton (1) would net his first of the season with a rip from the blue line to make it a 2-2 game. An additional 3:16 would pass before Colby Barlow (10) would strike for his second of the period to put the Attack ahead 3-2. It appeared that Liam Gilmartin would have his sixth of the season, but after an Official review, the goal was called back for an offside. With that result, the Owen Sound Attack would carry a 3-2 lead into the final period, with Erie leading in shots 24-19.

Carrying over the momentum from the called-off goal into the third period, the Owen Sound Attack would strike just 1:48 into the final frame from Servac Petrovksy (5,6) who would have the next goal six minutes later for a Hat Trick. With his pair of goals, Owen Sound would go up 5-2. With just over four minutes left in the game, Sam Alfano would race out of the penalty box and create an offensive opportunity for Brett Bressette (8) to score in back-to-back games. Erie's comeback effort would only come that far, as Ethan Burroughs (5) would score the empty-netter to give Owen Sound a 6-3 win. The Attack would sweep the weekend series, and keep Erie's last win in OS at February 2020.

The Erie Otters return home for eight of their next 10 games, starting this coming weekend for a battle against two top OHL teams. On Friday night, the Otters welcome the Saginaw Spirit to town for the second time this season for Children's Grief Awareness Night (pres. by Highmark Caring Place). The team will take the ice in pregame adorned in specialty Children's Grief Awareness Day jerseys to celebrate the first-of-its-kind event in sports.
