Head-to-head:

To get the last 10 meetings between these two clubs you have to go back to the 2015-16 regular season. In that span, Kitchener owns a 5-2-2-1 record over the Battalion. Although Kitchener has the better record on home ice, they still own a respectable 2-2-0-1 record at the North Bay Memorial Gardens which is notoriously a tough away barn to pick up wins.

The last time these two teams faced off was early in the 2019-20 regular season. It was North Bay who won the game 3-2 in overtime. In most recent action, Kitchener lost to Sudbury in Sudbury by a score of 6-1 and now have lost two games in a row. North Bay won on the road to Barrie by a score of 7-2 for their fourth straight road win.

North Bay owns the leagues fifth best power-play converting at a 25.4% rate, while Kitchener is converting at 20% which is the 14th best in the league. North Bay's power-play rises to 28% at home and Kitchener's penalty kill on the road is at 73%. However, Kitchener is coming off a perfect 4/4 on the penalty kill in their last road game Saturday.

Scouting the Rangers:

The Rangers have won six of their last ten games and are led by Francesco Pinelli (Los Angeles Kings) who has 17 points (9G, 8A) in 14 games. Francesco was the only current Ranger to record a point in North Bay the last time these two teams met.

Without the likes of Mitchell Martin for extended time, the Rangers will need players to step up offensively and show some depth. Last game out it was Tomas Hamara on defence who contributed on the action to raise his goal total to two and points total to six.

After a game off in Sudbury, Marco Costantini figures to draw in against North Bay, a team he saw lots of last year playing in the eastern conference with the Hamilton Bulldogs. Marco played North Bay three times for a 1-2-0-0 record, 3.04 goals against average and a 0.905 save percentage. This season he still owns the leagues eight best goals against average and seventh best save percentage.

Tomas Hamara (Ottawa Senators), Filip Mešár (Montréal Canadiens), Francesco Pinelli (Los Angeles Kings) and Roman Schmidt (Tampa Bay Lightning) are four Kitchener skaters that are both drafted and signed by their NHL clubs respectively

Scouting the Battalion:

North Bay enters play on a seven-game winning streak and three of those wins have come on home ice. The Battalion have scored 38 goals in those seven games averaging 5.4 goals per game and haven't been held to less than four in a game, so Kitchener will need to have a strong focus on their defensive play.

Kitchener native Justin Ertel was a third-round draft pick of the Dallas Stars in 2021 and comes into this game with 12 points (5G, 7A) in 16 games. Justin also recorded one goal and one assist last night in North Bay's win over Barrie.

Matvey Petrov currently owns the longest points streak in the OHL with points in 13 straight games. Across those 13 games, Matey has 17 points with seven goals and ten assists. Goaltender Dom DiVincentiis owns the leagues 5th best goals against average and comes into the game tied for the league lead with 10 wins. Dom did get the start in Barrie Saturday so unsure if we see him in a back-to-back opportunity.

Liam Arnsby (Florida Panthers), Dom DiVincentiis (Winnipeg Jets), Justin Ertel (Dallas Stars), Kyle Jackson (Seattle Kraken), Tnias Mathurin (Detroit Red Wings), Ty Nelson (Seattle Kraken), and Matvey Petrov (Edmonton Oilers) are the seven Battalion skaters drafted by their NHL clubs respectively.

Broadcast Coverage:

Sunday afternoon's contest vs. North Bay will be televised across the province of Ontario on the Super Sports Pak on channel 466 for cable subscribers. The game will be streamed live online on OHL Live on CHL TV. Additionally, fans can listen to the game on the radio on CityNews 570 AM CKGL. Mike Farwell (play-by-play) and Chris Pope (colour commentary) will call the game on the radio.
