Peterborough Petes News Release
(Peterborough, ON) - General Manager Michael Oke announced today that the team has acquired New York Rangers prospect Brennan Othmann from the Flint Firebirds in exchange for defenceman Artem Guryev, Peterborough's third round priority selections in 2023 and 2026, and Hamilton's second round selection in 2024.
"We're really excited to add one of the premier forwards in the OHL to our roster." Stated Oke. "We think he's a great fit for our group, and we can't wait for him to get started."
Othmann, a 2003 born left wing from Pickering, was selected by the New York Rangers in the first round, 16th overall, of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. He scored 50 goals last season with the Firebirds and has been the team's captain since January 2022. Othmann signed an entry-level contract with the Rangers on August 12, 2021. The 6', 180 lbs winger currently sits second in OHL scoring with 11 goals and 13 assists in 16 games. Othmann has represented Canada at the U17, U18, and U20 levels, scoring two goals and four assists at the World Junior Championships this past summer.
"I'm honoured and thrilled to be a part of a classy and history filled organization like the Petes. Exclaimed Othmann. "I can't wait to get started tomorrow against Saginaw."
Guryev, a 2003 born defenceman, was originally a second round pick of the Petes in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection. The 6'4", 213 lbs Russian was selected by the San Jose Sharks in the fifth round, 135th overall, of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. Guryev has played in 60 games as a Pete, scoring once and adding 14 assists.
"It was really difficult for us to move Artem as he's been a great Pete." Continued Oke. "You have to give up a good player to get a good player. We know he's going to do great in the future."
Othmann will be in action tomorrow as the Petes take on the Saginaw Spirit. Puck drop is scheduled for 5:30PM. You can catch the game on YourTV and Freq 90.5.
