Missouri River Otters News Release

St. Charles, MO -- With two goals against the Rockford Icehogs Saturday night, Missouri River Otters forward Jeff Petruic broke the team's single-season goals record, previously held by Dustin Whitecotton, who scored 38 goals in 2001-02.

"It's pretty special because this team has had some great players in the past," said Petruic, a 29-year-old Saskatchewan native with 37 goals on the year. "It's been a tough season, but it's always great to help your team out however you can."

Missouri head coach Lonnie Loach echoed his star forward's sentiments.

"His achievement is very impressive," he said, "especially considering the players we've had here, including Dustin, Jason [Gudmundsen], Joe [Ritson], and Eric [Murano]. It's also quite an accomplishment with all the things we've been through this season."

Scoring goals is nothing new to Petruic, who has scored 350 goals over the span of his nine-year professional career, including eight straight years with more than 30. He credits a lot of his consistency to his father.

"Ever since I was young, my dad's been harping on me to get mad when I miss the net," Petruic said. "Because of that, I'm never satisfied unless I get a few good shots on net every night."

With all of his offensive talents, there's still one thing that Petruic craves more than the back of the net.

"I'd give all of the goals back just to have a shot at winning the championship," he said.

Petruic continues his march toward 40 goals as the River Otters take on Kalamazoo at Wings Stadium Wednesday night at 7:00 PM EST.
