Brian Peterson had two-RBI singles in consecutive innings as the Laredo Lemurs swept the Worcester Tornadoes with a 5-0 victory on Sunday night at Uni-Trade Stadium.
The Lemurs notched three runs in the second inning off of Phil Negus, with two straight singles, an error by Alex Nunez, Peterson's single and another hit for J.B. Brown. They added another pair the next frame after Javier Brito led it off with a double, then Palmer Karr, Jr. and Ernie Banks, Jr. walked.
Mark Haynes notched the win, tossing seven innings, allowing just three hits and three walks. He struck out five Tornadoes hitters.
In the defeat, Phil Negus allowed five runs (four earned) in seven innings of work. Laredo batters reached via eight hits and three walks versus the Tornadoes righty starter. From the fourth inning on, Negus allowed just two base runners.
Worcester left a combined nine runners on base over the last four innings at the plate, including the bases loaded in the ninth.
The Tornadoes scored one run in the three-game series, a Brandon Pinckney single to knock Ryan Brockett home in a 10-1 loss on Saturday.
The Worcester squad will spend its off-day Monday traveling 11 hours by bus to Amarillo. The Tornadoes start a four-game set against the Sox on Tuesday night at 8:05 EST.
