July 1, 2012 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
New Jersey Jackals News Release

The Jackals dropped their second straight game to the Newark Bears Sunday afternoon, an 8-4 defeat on another hot summer day in Newark.

Down 3-2 in the bottom of the third, Bryce Lane connected with a two-run home run. Two walks later, Dan Coury's second home run of the season put the Bears up 7-3. They would never look back.

Jackals starter Craig Clark allowed seven runs in five innings, with six strikeouts and five walks. He drops to 3-3 this season.

Bears' Matt Fitton earns his first win ever as a starter and improves to 3-2 this season. He allowed four runs, three earned, over five-and-two-third innings.

The Jackals lead 2-0 after Matt Cusick and Nick Giarraputo recorded RBI singles in the first. The Bears responded with a run in each of the first two innings.

In the third, Giarraputo continued his hot hitting when his Can-Am leading 15th home run to left field cut through the wind to put the Jackals up 3-2. He finished the day 2-4 with two RBIs.

The Bears' homered three times today. While they still are the most infrequent home-run hitting team in the Can-Am League (now tied with Quebec), they have tallied six in the last two games.

The loss drops the second-place New Jersey Jackals to 23-18, five-and-a-half games back of first-place Quebec. Following yesterday's 15th-inning walk-off win, Josue Peley singled in the game-winning run in the ninth to give the Capitales the 4-3 victory this afternoon.

In the final game of the series tomorrow, the Jackals will send out Isaac Pavlik in a potentially historic outing. Pavlik is currently tied with Joel Bennett for the all-time Jackals wins record. Both have won 59 games with New Jersey.

The New Jersey Jackals, proud members of the Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball, play their home games at Yogi Berra Stadium located on the campus of Montclair State University in Little Falls, NJ. 2012 single-game tickets, season tickets, mini-plans and group outings are available by calling 973-746-7434.
