Five-Run Seventh Lifts Laredo Past Worcester 10-1

The Laredo Lemurs took game two of the three-game series against the Worcester Tornadoes with a 10-1 win on Saturday night at Uni-Trade Stadium, including five seventh-inning runs.

Three Lemurs hitter scored twice (Matt Forgatch, John Allen and Palmer Karr, Junior) in the Laredo romp, with Forgatch adding a homer for the home team.

The American Association squad also had a three-run third inning to break the game open, needing just a four-base hit to bat for the cycle that frame. Ernie Banks, Junior's RBI triple gave the Lemurs the game-winning run, and he came in to score on Brian Peterson's groundout.

Mann Ayala earned the victory as the second straight Lemurs starter to blank the Tornadoes through five innings, striking out four batters, walking one and giving up one run on six hits. Edwin Walker, Chaz Roe and Jesus Martinez combined for four shutout frames, allowing six base runners along the way (five hits and a walk).

Kevin Cooper got the loss in his start, giving up five runs in six innings of work, striking out three, walking two (one intentionally), and allowing seven hits.

Former Tornadoes infielder J.B. Brown had a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning to score Karr, Jr. and give the Leumrs a 4-1 advantage.

The final game of the series is Sunday night at 8:30 EST, with Phil Negus getting the nod for the Worcester club. After an off-day Monday, the Tornadoes will take on the Amarillo Sox in the second-ever American Association road interleague series for the Tornadoes.
