Columbia Fireflies News Release

COLUMBIA, SC - The Mets 2017 first round draft choice David Peterson posted his finest start of the season on Monday at Spirit Communications Park. The Fireflies dropped the series finale, 5-1, in 10 innings, but Peterson fanned eight over seven shut-out frames.

The southpaw faced just one batter over the minimum in those seven innings and lowered his ERA to 2.28 (four starts). Peterson wasn't the only pitcher to impress on Monday. Neither side allowed a run over the first nine frames. Ramon Rosso also tossed six shut-out innings for Lakewood and wound up striking out nine. The relievers were also sharp: Carlos Hernandez tossed two scoreless frames for the Fireflies and Kyle Dohy did the same for the BlueClaws.

When the final out was recorded in the bottom of the ninth, the two teams had just five hits to show. In fact, only one base-runner had reached as far as third base (Quincy Nieporte, fifth inning).

The game ventured into the 10th inning still without a run. The BlueClaws plated five runs in the top half, an inning highlighted by Rudolfo Duran's three-run homer. Rigoberto Terrazas drove in Quinn Brodey in the bottom half, but Columbia mustered no more offense.

Jeremy Vasquez's 29-game on-base streak came to an end on Monday when the slugger finished 0-for-4 at the dish.

Columbia is off on Tuesday and is back in action in Hickory on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. and you can listen to the action on FOX Sports Radio 1400 AM, ColumbiaFireflies.com and the TuneIn Radio app starting at 5:45 p.m.
