Greenville Drive News Release
Greensboro, NC - Behind a pair of terrific pitching efforts, the Greenville Drive defeated the Greensboro Grasshoppers 3-2 on Monday to come away with a victory in the four-game series.
Enmanuel De Jesus (1-0) continued his outstanding work since coming off the disabled list, as the southpaw held the Grasshoppers (15-14) hitless and scoreless over the final four innings of action while allowing just one walk and striking out four. In his two relief appearances this season, he has yet to allow a run over eight innings.
In his return to the rotation, Nick Duron gave the Drive (8-23) a solid start as well. He struck out six Greensboro hitters in five innings, and he gave up just two runs on four hits without issuing a free pass.
The Grasshoppers plated both of their runs in the bottom of the third inning thanks to RBI doubles by Garvis Lara and Thomas Jones.
The score remained 2-0 until the Drive made their move in the seventh against Ryan Lillie (1-1). Victor Acosta continued his hot streak by leading off the frame with a solo homer to left, his third of the year. Following singles by C.J. Chatham and Marino Campana, a Greensboro error on Zach Sterry's sacrifice bunt plated Chatham to tie the game, and a second error later in the inning brought home the final run.
Acosta and Sterry picked up two hits apiece for Greenville.
Following an off day on Tuesday, the Drive return to Fluor Field on Wednesday night to start a three-game series with the Kannapolis Intimidators, a Chicago White Sox affiliate, at 7:05. Right-hander Alex Scherff (0-3, 7.25) is scheduled to start the opener for the Drive, and Kannapolis will start right-hander Lincoln Henzman (2-2, 2.53).
