(Peterborough, ON) - The Peterborough Petes have announced that a final total of $20,560.29 has been raised during the World Kidney Day fundraising campaign and game night on March 9, 2023. All funds were raised in support of lifesaving delivery of dialysis treatment at Peterborough Regional Health Centre.

The game was played in recognition of Petes Associate Coach, Andrew Verner, who was diagnosed with glomerulonephritis in 1999 and received a kidney transplant on March 9, 2021, exactly two years before the fundraising game night. The game featured a ceremonial puck drop with Verner, his wife Allison who is an organ donor, and Dr. Vincent Cheung.

The funds were raised through a number of channels, including a silent auction at the game featuring various pieces of signed NHL memorabilia, and a donation page for Verner set up by the PRHC Foundation. Lynda Johnson and the Petes Booster Club also generously donated $3,000 to the cause.

The Petes are back in action on Tuesday, April 4, when they take on the Wolves in Sudbury for game three of the OHL Eastern Conference Quarter-Final. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Fans can catch the game on OHL Live, YourTV Peterborough or Freq 90.5.
