Rangers Push Spitfires to Brink of Elimination, Win 6-3

The Spitfires had 43 shots on goal on Tuesday but the Rangers netminder Costantini was able to backstop the team and ultimately win 6-3.

In the first period, the Spits were on an early PK when Pinelli decked Peer with a blindside hit which resulted in a 5 minute major and game misconduct. Peer did not return to the game. The Spitfires could not break through with the man advantage, a staggering 0-11 in the series thus far. Late in the period, with under a minute remaining the Rangers would score the games first goal. Rehkopf would score on a rebound. The Spitfires outshot the Rangers 14-6 in the first period.

In the second frame, the Spitfires had another early PK in which the killers were successful. The period would be scoreless as both goalies stood tall and made key saves down the stretch. The Spitfires had a 27-19 shot advantage after 40 minutes.

In the third period, the Spitfires would finally find an answer after going over 100 minutes shutout. Harrison found Christopoulos in the slot and he ripped a shot top shelf for his first of the postseason to tie the game at 1. Just five minutes later, the Rangers would score to take a 2-1 lead. Just two minutes later, the Spitfires would tie it back up at 2. Dionicio got the puck at the top of the circle and ripped a shot top shelf. The Rangers would add 2 goals in 39 seconds with one coming on the powerplay to take a 4-2 lead. In the final minutes with the net empty, the Spitfires Captain Maggio scored his first of the series to make it a 4-3 game. The Spitfires pushed hard trying to find an equalizer but could not find it. The Rangers would add two empty net goals and take game 3, 6-3.

The Rangers lead the best of 7 series 3-0. Game 4 is scheduled for Thursday in Kitchener with puck drop at 7:00pm.
