Waterloo, IA - Jonathan Liau scored two goals and Matt Gaudreau chipped in a pair of assists as the Omaha Lancers knocked off the Waterloo Black Hawks 5-2 Saturday evening in front of 2,166 fans at the Young Arena. With the win, Omaha improved to 11-8-2 on the year and has now moved into sole possession of second place in the Western Conference with 22 standings. The victory also marked the first time this season the Lancers have won back-to-back road games.

Omaha opened the scoring just past the midway point of period one when Jonathan Liau slipped behind the Waterloo defense before sliding his fourth goal of the season between the pads of Black Hawks goaltender Eamon McAdam. Kenney Morrison garnered the only assist on the even strength goal scored 10:55 into the opening period of play. Liau's tally marked the 11th time in 21 games this season that the Lancers have scored the game's first goal.

Waterloo evened the game just over three minutes into the second period when a two-on-one between Joe Rehkamp and Taylor Cammarata resulted in Cammarata's team-leading 12th goal of the season. Rehkamp and A.J. Michaelson assisted on the five-on-five goal notched 3:09 into the middle stanza. Omaha regained the lead just past the midway point of the period when a brilliant pass from the high slot by Kevin Schulze found Ken Babinski on the back door who made no mistake in sending in his first goal of the season. Michael Ferrantino earned the secondary assist on the even strength goal scored 10:32 into the period. The Black Hawks didn't wait long to tie the game once again as just 27 seconds later Ian McCoshen was able to drive in his third goal of the season following an offensive zone faceoff win by Mark Naclerio. The Lancers remained resilient though and regained the lead a little over three minutes later when a relentless forecheck resulted in Casey Bailey's team-leading 11th goal of the season. Jimmy Murray and Matt Gaudreau assisted on the eventual game-winning goal scored 14:08 into the second period. Omaha then doubled its lead in the dying moments of the period when a centering feed from Max Vallis from the right corner found Liau at the top of the goal crease who tapped in his second goal of the game and fifth tally of the season. Tanner Lane grabbed the secondary assist on the even strength goal scored 19:56 into the middle frame.

Omaha landed the final nail in the coffin late in regulation time when Gaudreau set up Victor Newell who blasted home his fourth goal of the season from the left wing. The game's final marker came 18:57 into the third period and marked the 12th goal scored by the Lancers during their two-game weekend road swing.

Alex Lyon earned the victory in goal for Omaha after 21 saves on 23 Black Hawks shots. With the win, Lyon improved to 8-6-2 on the year. Meanwhile, McAdam suffered the loss in goal for Waterloo after just 17 saves on 22 Lancers shots.

The Lancers are back in action this coming Tuesday evening when the team returns home to the Omaha Civic Auditorium for a 7:05 PM showdown with the Tri-City Storm.
