Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

The Omaha Lancers blocked shots, broke up passes, and generally frustrated the Waterloo Black Hawks Saturday, taking a 5-2 victory during their visit to Young Arena.

The visitors pulled ahead 10:55 into the game when Kenney Morrison's long pass found Jonathan Liau with a step on his check at the Black Hawks' blue line. Liau's low shot squeaked through Eamon McAdam and into the back of the net.

Waterloo scored first in the second period, but the Lancers ended the frame with a larger lead than the one they had when it started. Taylor Cammarata converted a two-on-one opportunity set up by Joe Rehkamp at 3:09. The Lancers nudged ahead again at 10:32 on a goal by Ken Babinski, however the lead lasted just 27 seconds before Ian McCoshen retied the score shortly after a faceoff win. Omaha broke the resulting 2-2 tie on a close range opportunity for Casey Bailey at 14:08, then added to the edge with Liau's second of the game with just 3.9 seconds remaining before intermission.

The Lancers settled the game after a nearly scoreless third period when a long, low wrist shot by Victor Newell capped the Omaha win with 1:03 left in the contest. Alex Lyon made 21 saves in the victory, while McAdam suffered the loss with 17 stops.

The Hawks meet the Western Conference-leading Lincoln Stars twice next weekend. The home-and-home series will begin at the Icebox Saturday before a rematch Sunday evening at 5:05 PM in Young Arena.
