Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

CORPUS CHRISTI - Pinch-hitter Chad Spann and shortstop Wladimir Sutil had consecutive seventh-inning RBI singles to give Corpus Christi a 3-1 triumph over San Antonio Saturday before 7,784.

The Hooks improved to 30-38 in the second half of Texas League play and stand 61-77 overall. San Antonio is 29-39 and 68-70.

Spann hit for starting pitcher Sergio Perez (11-11) with two out and two on after Jhon Florentino and Brandon Barnes drew walks. Spann lined a 1-1 offering from Will Inman into right field and Sutil then went the other way on the first pitch he saw.

Perez, who scored the first Corpus Christi run after doubling in the sixth, scattered three hits over seven frames. He allowed a run and walked and struck out three. Seventy-six of his 120 pitches went for strikes.

Michael Collins' sacrifice fly to deep center plated Anthony Contreras for a 1-0 Missions lead in the fifth. Contreras opened with a double to right-center and scooted to third on a wild pitch.

An inning later, the Hooks finally broke through against Inman. Perez ripped a lead-off double into the left-field corner and Felix Molina's two-out single to right knotted the game at 1.

Inman (6-5), who cruised through the first three innings on 27 pitches, lasted 6 2/3. His line: three runs, five hits, four walks and three strikeouts - with 60 strikes in 93 pitches.

Evan Englebrook worked the ninth for his ninth save in 10 opportunities after Danny Meszaros posted a perfect eighth.

Lefties Tyler Lumsden (2-3) and Nathan Culp (7-9) pitch Sunday for the Hooks and Missions, respectively. It's Reliant Back-to-School Night with giveaways for the kids upon entry and exit. First pitch is 6:05; gates open at 4:30.
