York Revolution News Release

Andres Perez became the second player in York Revolution history to hit for the cycle leading the way in huge offensive performance, and Corey Thurman tossed his second complete game of the season as the Revs downed the Sugar Land Skeeters 17-2 in the opener of Tuesday's doubleheader in front of 4,752 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium.

The Revs set single-game season-highs in runs (17), margin of victory (15) and extra-base hits (nine), while tying a season-high for hits (17) and home runs (four).

Down 1-0 in the first inning, the Revs plated 17 unanswered en route to their most lopsided win of the year.

Held to just eight runs over their previous five games, the Revs sprinted out of the gates to score four times in the first inning. Ramon Castro launched a three-run homer, the first of a trio of three-run homers for the Revs in the opener, and Perez later added a solo shot to left for his first hit on a historic night.

York chased starter Ryan Ketchner (0-3) with five more in the second. Castro drew a bases loaded walk, giving him four RBI in the first two innings, pulling within one of matching Jason Aspito's all-time Revolution record of 188, which he'll continue to seek on Wednesday night. He also took over the league lead with 40 RBI on the season.

Perez added a two-run double to left to chase Ketchner, and Michael Hernandez greeted reliever Sean Morgan with a two-run single to right-center, making it a 9-1 game after two innings.

Perez added a sacrifice fly and James Shanks ripped an RBI single to right in a two-run fourth inning.

The Revs then tied their season-high for runs in an inning with six more in the fifth on a pair of three-run homers by Chris Nowak and Shanks. All six runs were unearned after an error earlier in the frame.

Perez singled to right with two outs in the sixth inning to complete his cycle, joining Scott Grimes (September 15, 2011, also in a seven-inning doubleheader opener) as the only two to accomplish the feat in team history. Perez drove in four, scored three, and even added a sacrifice fly.

Shanks and Castro also drove in four runs apiece for the York offense.

Thurman worked all seven innings for his second complete game of the season, allowing only a first inning RBI double and a sixth inning solo homer, both to Skeeters designated hitter Jason Lane.

Thurman allowed just six hits and walked none while striking out five. He entered the season with just two complete games in his career with the last coming in 2000, as he's now tossed two in one season for the first time.

Thurman (6-1) has now won six consecutive decisions, the second longest winning streak in team history, and just one shy of his own record of seven set last season. It was the 44th win of his Revs career, tying him for sixth most in Atlantic League history. His next win will tie him for third most all-time.

Thurman has allowed two runs or fewer in four of his last five starts.

WATERS IMPRESSIVE IN FIRST HOME START AS REVS SHUTOUT SKEETERS FOR DOUBLEHEADER SWEEP

Chris Waters tossed five scoreless innings in his first home start as the York Revolution completed a doubleheader sweep of the Sugar Land Skeeters with a 6-0 win in Tuesday's nightcap in front of 4,752 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium. The Revs will look for a third straight win in Wednesday's series finale at 6:30 p.m.

Waters (1-0) allowed just four hits and one walk while striking out five, throwing 38 of his 54 pitches for strikes. He took a one-hitter into the fifth, and has now totaled seven scoreless innings since signing with York.

Waters stranded Matt Hagen at third base after Hagen led off the third with a double and advanced to third base with one out on a sacrifice bunt. He also worked out of bases loaded trouble in the fifth, spearing a line drive off the bat of Octavio Martinez and throwing to second to double off Hagen, finishing his outing with a defensive gem.

Ricardo Gomez and R.J. Rodriguez followed with scoreless innings to complete the Revs' fourth shutout in the last week.

Sugar Land's Derrick Gordon (1-4) worked all six innings taking the loss in the nightcap.

Travis Scott drove in York's first run on a sac fly to deep left in the second inning. James Shanks stole second with two outs to reach scoring position, allowing him to come home on Brandon Haveman's single to right-center, making it 2-0 early.

Chris Nowak slammed an RBI double to deep center in the third for his fifth consecutive hit, four of which went for extra bases, and Michael Hernandez tagged a two-run triple to deep center two batters later, extending the lead to 5-0. Hernandez was thrown out at home, attempting to notch the first inside-the-park home run in Revs history.

Shanks cracked an RBI single to center in the fifth providing the final run.

Perez went 2-for-3 in the nightcap after hitting for the cycle in the opener, and tied a Revs record for hits in a doubleheader with six total knocks on the day.

York outscored Sugar Land a combined 23-2 in the 14 innings on Tuesday, and after entering the day having been outscored by 20 total runs for the season, the Revs have now outscored the opposition by one run for the entire year.

The two wins helps York pull back to the .500 mark at 26-26, within 5.5 games of first place Lancaster in the Freedom Division. The Revs also snap a three-game losing streak, and a six-game losing streak head-to-head against the Skeeters.

The Revs moved from eighth in the league in team batting to fifth after combining for 29 hits in the twinbill. They also moved from fifth in total runs scored into second in the league, a full 15 runs ahead of the next closest team.

York will look for the series win on Wednesday night as Omar Javier (0-5, 6.61) faces former Revs closer Michael Nix (1-5, 9.26) with first pitch at 6:30 p.m. It is Irish Heritage Night at Sovereign Bank Stadium, as well as a Wing Wednesday. It is also Pizza Hut Night, as fans who buy a large pizza at participating York County Pizza Hut stores get two FREE tickets to Wednesday's game (carry-out or dine-in only, limit two pair per order). Tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
