WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY - The Aberdeen IronBirds scored three in the top of the first and coasted to an 8-1 victory over the Hudson Valley Renegades on Saturday night at Dutchess Stadium.
A capacity crowd of 1,050 due to COVID-19 protocols saw Oswald Peraza hit his fifth home run of the year off Aberdeen starter Grayson Rodriguez (1-0) in the bottom of the first. Aberdeen tacked on runs in second and third. Adam Hall hit a three-run shot in the top of the third to put the game effectively out of reach.
Mitch Spence took the loss for the Renegades (0-1). Rodriguez struck out 11 over five innings of work to earn the win.
Peraza went three-for-four to push his average to .349 (15-for-43).
The Renegades and IronBirds finish the series on Sunday at Dutchess Stadium before the Gades head to Brooklyn to start a six-game series. Game time is 4:35 on Sunday.
