
Peoria Tops Bees in Series Opener

(Peoria-IL)- The Peoria Chiefs handed the Burlington Bees their third loss in a row, as the Bees lost the series opener, 7-2 on Monday night at Dozer Park in Peoria.
Andrew Sohn started the offense for Peoria, smacking a one out single in the bottom of the first inning. After Oscar Mercado flew out to center, Nick Thompson ended Austin Robichaux scoreless innings streak, crushing his eighth home run of the season, a two run shot to left, putting the Chiefs on top, 2-0.
Nick Flair and Zach Houchins started the top of the second inning with back-to-back walks. On the first pitch of the at bat, Natanael Delgado grounded out to first, moving both Flair and Houchins to second and third. After Steven Mateo struck out, Erick Salcedo shot a ground ball to right field, scoring both Flair and Houchins, tying the game at two.
Andrew Sohn broke the tie in the bottom of the third inning with a solo home run, his second of the season, giving Peoria a 3-2 lead. Later in the inning, Nick Thompson reached on a walk, with two outs. Alex Deleon hit a towering home run to right, his eighth of the year, upping Peoria's lead to 5-2.
Kenny Peoples-Walls and Jhohan Acevedo opened the bottom of the sixth inning with two straight singles. Eric Alonzo fought back to strike out the next two hitters before giving up a two out single to Oscar Mercado, scoring Peoples-Walls and Acevedo, giving the Chiefs the eventual final score of 7-2.
Peoria starter, Auston Gomber (8-3) earned the win, allowing just two runs in 6.1 innings. Bees' starter Austin Robichaux (7-3) was charged with the loss. The Bees and the Chiefs continue their series, Tuesday night at 7:00 at Dozer Park in Peoria. Keynan Middleton makes the start for the Bees against Jack Flaherty for Peoria.
