Hot Rods Top Dragons 1-0 in Kentucky

Bowling Green, Ky.-Three Bowling Green pitchers combined to scatter seven hits as the Hot Rods defeated the Dayton Dragons 1-0 on Monday night. The loss was the fourth in the last five games for the Dragons.

The game marked the second time in 10 days that the Hot Rods have handed Dayton starter Wyatt Strahan a 1-0 loss in Kentucky. Strahan went eight innings against Bowling Green on June 26 to suffer a hard-luck loss. On Monday, Strahan (5-6) worked seven innings, allowing a run in the second. He allowed eight hits and one walk with five strikeouts to again take the loss.

The Dragons nearly tied the game in the eighth inning. Gavin LaValley singled to center field to start the inning. Paul Kronenfeld followed with a double to the right field corner, but LaValley was thrown out at the plate as he tried to score from first. The next batter, Garrett Boulware, lined out to left field. Kronenfeld tagged at third and tried to score, but Bowling Green left fielder Bralin Jackson threw a strike to the plate and Kronenfeld was tagged out for an inning-ending double play.

The Dragons had seven hits and drew four walks in the game but went 0 for 9 with men in scoring position and stranded eight runners. Boulware and Argenis Aldazoro each had two hits to lead the Dragons attack.

The Dragons (5-7 in the second half; 44-38 overall) close out the four-game road trip on Tuesday afternoon in Bowling Green against the Hot Rods (6-6, 43-39) at 1:05 p.m. EDT. Tejay Antone (4-6, 2.45) will start for the Dragons. Bowling Green's Yonny Chirinos will make his first appearance in the Midwest League. He was 1-0, 0.60 with Hudson Valley of the New York/Penn League. The Dragons will return home on Wednesday to host the Hot Rods at Fifth Third Field.

Notes: Dragons pitcher Mark Armstrong was placed on the disabled list before the game with a right elbow strain. Jacob Moody returned to the Dragons from Billings to replace him on the roster.
