Peoria Stifles Columbus' Comeback, Gains 3-2 Victory

The Peoria Rivermen came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Columbus Cottonmouths, but did just enough to escape with a 3-2 victory.

Peoria led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Rivermen's Steve Morra's scored at 19:11 in the first period to put Peoria up 3-0.

By firing 31 shots on goal, the Rivermen exceeded the 24.7 shots they average per game this year.

Peoria was helped by Parker Stanfield, who registered one goal. Stanfield scored 4:19 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Peoria. Peoria also got a goal from Taylor Larsen as well. More assists for Peoria came via Adam Hartley, Garrett Vermeersch, Charlie Carkin, and Tyler Amburgey, who contributed one a piece.

Columbus' offense rang up 31 shots on the Rivermen's net.

The Cottonmouths were helped by Dan Bremner, who tallied one goal. Bremner scored 2:25 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Peoria. Jason Gray provided the assist. Tom Maldonado also scored for Columbus. In addition, Columbus received assists from Jordan Draper, who had one.

Kyle Rank rejected 29 shots on goal for Peoria. The Rivermen totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. Peoria ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Larsen was ejected from the game. Andrew Loewen recorded 28 saves for Columbus. The Cottonmouths incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
