Peoria Pirates Lawrence Matthews was selected by the af2 league office as ADT Defensive Player of the Week vs. the Albany Conquest.
Matthews (6-3, 181, Western Illinois) playing in his rookie season for the Pirates had two interceptions in the Peoria Pirates 44-24 victory over the Albany Conquest. Matthews' first interception was in the second quarter with the game even at seven. His second interception, Matthews returned for a twelve-yard touchdown. Lawrence also contributed on the offensive side of the ball having two receiving touchdowns. Matthews has been selected twice by game attending media as the Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Game vs. the Arkansas Twisters (4/9/04) and the Albany Conquest (5/29/04).
