Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers News Release

Wilkes-Barre, PA - Day one of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers "Camp Out to Sell Out" is officially in the books, and the team could not be happier.

"I'd say we're doing okay so far," said Pioneers President Dave Berryman. "The media has done a tremendous job of helping us to get the word out, and the phones have been ringing all day."

"However, with Ticketmaster outlets down today due to technical difficulties, it has been rather difficult to monitor our activity," he added.

The Pioneers front office staff, as well as other guests, will continue to camp out in front of the team's administrative offices until this weekend's game against the Manchester Wolves is sold out. As of Tuesday afternoon, the team estimates 3,700 to 3,900 tickets have been purchased so far.

The team hopes to be able to present a check for $20,000 to the family of SGT Sherwood Baker, who was killed in Iraq last month. But the June 5th game must be sold out first.

"We need the community to help us reach our goal," said Pioneers PR Director Jason Jarecki. "I think this is the most important thing the Pioneers have ever done, but we can't do it alone."

The June 5th game, which has been designated as Military Appreciation Night, will also feature an induction ceremony at halftime for 30 U.S. Army enlistees.

Fans may inquire about ticket availability for the June 5th game by calling the team at (570) 270-5811 or (570) 270-3848. Anyone interested in purchasing tickets may also do so by visiting the "Pioneer Village," located directly in front of 275 Mundy Street in Wilkes-Barre Township.
