Sioux City Explorers News Release
Sioux City.....The Explorers were shutout for the fifth time this season Saturday 6-0 on a four-hit complete game by Pensacola right hander Dane DeValk.
The loss drops the Explorers below the .500 mark at 7-8 in the second half, but still tied for first place in the American Association North as Lincoln also lost Saturday.
DeValk went the distance, striking out eight and only allowed two Sioux City base runners to reach second base in gaining his fourth win of the year.
The Pelicans scored all the runs they needed in the second inning when they sent nine batters to the plate and scored four runs off losing pitcher Trevor Fox, who drops to 4-2 for the season.
Pensacola added two insurance runs in the seventh off relief hurler Israel Chirino.
The only scoring threat the Explorers had was in the fifth inning when Justin Nelson doubled, but was left stranded at third base.
The final game of the four-game series with Pensacola will be played Sunday at Lewis and Clark Park. Game time will be 6:05.
