Mississippi Braves News Release
PEARL, MS -- The Pensacola Blue Wahoos broke a 10-game winless stretch against the Mississippi Braves with a 1-0 victory in extra innings Wednesday. The Braves, 4-1 during the homestand, continue a 10-game homestand with a five-game series against the Mobile BayBears. First pitch of game one is slated for 7:00 PM Thursday.
After a scoreless nine frames, Devin Lohman walked and took second on a sacrifice bunt. A wild pitch allowed Lohman to move over to third before Yorman Rodriguez delivered a single to center, plating the first and only run of the game.
Mycal Jones led off the bottom of the 10th with a walk but was caught stealing second. Matt Kennelly and Gustavo Nunez followed with back-to-back base hits, but Barrett Kleinknecht grounded into a game-ending double play.
Mississippi (22-18, 61-48) managed just five hits in the game. Pensacola (15-25, 46-64) scored one run on eight hits. Kyle Kubitza collected two hits at the plate for the Braves. Rodriguez and Kyle Walrop each had two hits for the Blue Wahoos.
Carlos Gonzalez (3-0) struck out the side in the ninth to pick up the win. Jorge Reyes (0-1) came on in the 10th. He gave up one earned run on one hit and two walks. Shane Dyer (S, 12) recorded the final three outs to notch the save.
Neither starter factored in the decision. Mitch Atkins went seven innings for the Braves, giving up just six hits and a walk while fanning four. Michael Lorenzen limited the Braves to just three hits and two walks. He struck out three in five innings pitched.
In game one of a five-game series on the tail-end of a 10-game homestand, the M-Braves send right-hander J.R. Graham (1-5, 5.43) to the hill. The BayBears will counter with righty Aaron Blair (2-0, 0.66). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM. Gates open at 6:00 PM.
