Jackson Generals News Release
MOBILE, ALA. (JULY 29, 2014) - Victor Sanchez allowed just one run over 6.2 innings Tuesday, but the Generals (17-21, 48-59) lost 2-1 in 11 innings to Mobile (23-14, 65-41) and dropped the series. The loss gives Mobile their sixth straight series win over the Generals at Hank Aaron Stadium, dating back to 2011. It was the third walk-off loss for Jackson in their last six road games. Jackson dropped to 4-4 in extra-inning games this season.
Both starters did not factor into the decision as Sanchez (5-4, 3.59) logged another quality start, allowing one run on six hits and struck out five in 6.2 innings. Mobile starter Bradin Hagens allowed just one run on six hits in 6.0 innings.
The Generals had their chances Tuesday, but went 0-for-12 with runners in scoring position and left 12 runners on base, including the 10th inning which began with such promise as they had runners on first and second with no outs.
Jackson scored the first run in this pitcher's duel in the fifth inning. Brock Hebert (1x4, R) was hit by a pitch with one out and moved to third on a double by Leon Landry (2x5, BB). Dan Paolini (0x2, RBI, BB) grounded into a fielder's choice in which no out was recorded and Hebert scored to give the Generals the 1-0 lead.
Mobile came back to tie the game with a one out solo home run from Evan Marzilli in the bottom of the sixth.
Ryan Court thought 11 innings was long enough, as he came to the plate with one out and ended the game with his first BayBears long ball this season. The solo shot gave Mobile the 2-1 winning margin.
Jimmie Sherfy (3-0, 4.33) picked up the win for Mobile with 1.0 scoreless inning as Moises Hernandez (0-5, 5.23) suffered the loss in 2.1 innings as he allowed the run on the homer to Court.
The Generals will attempt to salvage the series finale and their second game in a series against the BayBears for the first time this season Wednesday at Hank Aaron Stadium. Lefty Tyler Pike (2-1, 5.47) will be back on the hill for Jackson as Diamondbacks top prospect Archie Bradley (1-1, 3.86) will make the start for Mobile. The game will begin at 7:05 p.m. and can be heard on 96.5 ESPN, TuneIn Radio and jacksongeneralsbaseball.com.
