Sacramento River Cats News Release
West Sacramento, Calif. - Cliff Pennington's game-winning RBI base hit in the bottom of the ninth scored Danny Putnam and gave the River Cats a 7-6 victory on Wednesday afternoon at Raley Field. The River Cats took the four-game series three games to one. Pennington's single to right field came with two outs and runners on first and third, after Putnam reached on a hit-by-pitch and Joe Gaetti singled to left field. Jeff Gray earned his second victory of the season, throwing 2.0 innings of shutout relief. The game had been tied at 6-6 since the fourth inning, when the River Cats scored three runs capped by Casey Rogowski's RBI double. Memphis had taken a 6-3 advantage in the top of the fourth on leadoff hitter Tyler Greene's two-RBI double, followed by Brian Barton's sacrifice fly. Memphis jumped on Sacramento starter Keith Foulke with three runs in the first inning, highlighted by back-to-back home runs by Josh Phelps and David Freese. Foulke, currently on rehabilitation assignment from Oakland, was on a very limited pitch count and threw just two innings, allowing three runs. Brad Knox entered in the third inning and threw 5.0 innings and allowed three earned runs. Brooks Conrad hit his club-leading 23rd home run of the season, driving in two runs in the bottom of the first inning with a deep ball that landed in the visitor's bullpen in right-centerfield. The first place River Cats are off on Thursday before traveling to face the second-place Las Vegas 51s for a four-game set.
