Gold batted .394 during this recent stretch and raised his average four points from .242 to .246. Despite having his hitting streak snapped, the walk extended his on-base streak to nine games.
MAYBERRY HEATS UP: John Mayberry had a hit in four at bats last night an rides a six game hitting streak into today's game. Mayberry is batting .435 during this streak and has hit safely in 14 of his last 16 games. This is his third hitting streak of six games or more after a nine-game run in June and an eight game stretch in late July.
LOE GOES TODAY: Kameron Loe will start today's game against Tucson. Loe began the season in the RedHawks bullpen prior to a late May recall to Texas. After two short stints with the Rangers, Loe returned to Oklahoma as a starting pitcher and made three starts before back problems forced him to the disabled list. Once activated, the right-hander went back to Texas for his third stint in the Majors before getting optioned on July 19. Loe is 0-1 as a starter this season with a 6.75 ERA, while going 3-3 as a reliever with a 4.46 earned run average. This will be the 115 start of his professional career, including 47 with the Rangers in the Majors.
NO GROUND LOST:
Oklahoma's division lead remained at eight games over New Orleans despite last evening's loss. The Zephyrs dropped a 9-5 decision to Las Vegas at home last night. The RedHawks magic number is at 19.
WITHOUT CRUZ:
Tuesday's loss dropped Oklahoma to 11-13 in games when Nelson Cruz is not in the starting lineup. Cruz is on the RedHawks disabled list with a strained left quad. The outfielder is still among the Minor League leaders in several major offensive categories.
TUCSON AT A GLANCE
: Jeff Salazar and Josh Whitesell had two hits apiece and extended their hitting streaks to nine and 13 games, respectively... Former first round pick Max Scherzer threw 63 of his scheduled 65 pitches yesterday, and has now struck out 13 batters over his last seven innings while working back into the rotation from shoulder problems.
