Tucson Sidewinders News Release

Oklahoma City, OK - Josh Whitesell had two hits, homered and drove in four and Matt Torra fired eight shutout innings as the Sidewinders beat the Oklahoma Redhawks 6-1 on Wednesday afternoon to take the series three games to one.

Whitesell put the Sidewinders on the board in the first with a single to center to score Jeff Salazar. In the fourth, Whitesell capped a five run frame with a three run home run to right. The Sidewinders first baseman has now hit in 14 straight games and has moved into a tie for fourth on Tucson's single season home run list with 22.

Torra didn't need much run support as he shut the Redhawks down through 8 innings. Torra (3-3) allowed just five hits and struck out three. He threw 85 pitches, 57 of which were strikes.

Doug Slaten started the ninth inning for Tucson and allowed a home run to Chris Shelton and back to back singles to Nate Gold and Ryan Roberts before striking out John Mayberry and getting Drew Meyer to bounce out to second. Slaten was lifted after throwing 26 pitches.

Jailen Peguero recorded the final out of the game by getting Nick Trzesniak to ground out to short.

The Sidewinders have Thursday off before returning home to open a four game series against the Tacoma Rainiers on Friday night at Tucson Electric Park. Right-hander Micah Owings (0-0, 4.50) will make his second start for the Sidewinders. First pitch is at 7:00. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 6:50.
