Fri., Jan. 24 - Penguins 1 at NORFOLK 4
Devante Smith-Pelly's two power play goals led the Admirals to a 4-1 win over W-B/Scranton in the first of a two-game set at the Scope. Zach Sill tallied his third of the year for WBS.
Sat., Jan. 25 - Penguins 2 at NORFOLK 1 (SO)
Eric Hartzell made 33 saves through overtime and was 8-for-8 in the shootout to help the Penguins edge Norfolk, 2-1. The Pens' Tom Kuhnhackl notched the lone goal of the shootout.
Sun., Jan. 26 - Penguins 0 at HERSHEY 2
Philip Grubauer stopped all 21 shots he faced as Hershey blanked W-B/Scranton, 2-0. Dustin Gazley and Jeff Taffe each registered a goal and an assist for the Bears.
The Week Ahead
Wed., Jan. 29 - PENGUINS vs. Syracuse
The Crunch have dropped four straight to fall to 17-18-2-4 on the season and sit in fifth place in the East Division. Goalie Kristers Gudlevskis is tied for the AHL lead with four shutouts.
Fri., Jan. 31 - PENGUINS vs. Norfolk
Norfolk is on a six-game point streak (3-0-0-3) and, with a record of 22-13-1-7, has inched to within two points of the second-place Penguins. Smith-Pelly has recorded points in nine of his last 10 games (8g-4a).
Sat., Feb. 1 - PENGUINS vs. Rochester
This is the second and final meeting of the season between the Penguins and Americans. W-B/Scranton defeated Rochester, 3-1, on Nov. 20 at Blue Cross Arena. The Americans are on a four-game winning streak and tied for second in the North Division at 19-15-3-3.
Ice Chips
- Eric Hartzell picked up the first shootout win of his pro career, stopping all eight shooters he faced in a 2-1 decision over the Admirals on Saturday.
- Hartzell has allowed two goals or less in his last seven starts.
- Saturday's eight-round shootout was the longest for W-B/Scranton since an eight-round affair versus Providence on March 29, 2013, in which the Penguins fell, 3-2.
- W-B/Scranton remains perfect when leading after the first (12-0-0-0) and second (14-0-0-0) periods.
- Defenseman Simon Despres ranks fourth in the AHL with a +18 rating.
