Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today that they have signed defenseman Barry Goers to a professional tryout agreement (PTO). In addition, defensemen Nick D'Agostino and Harrison Ruopp have been assigned to the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL) by the Pittsburgh Penguins (NHL).
Goers joins the Penguins for the second time this season, having signed a PTO with the team on December 13. In seven games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Goers collected his first AHL goal, four assists and two penalty minutes before returning to the Nailers on January 14. A 27-year old, fourth-year pro from Ivyland, Pa., Goers has posted seven points (2g-5a) and 6 PIM in 16 games for Wheeling.
D'Agostino, 23, has appeared in 25 games this season for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, registering one goal, six assists, and 11 penalty minutes. The rookie defenseman also recorded one assist during a four-game stint with the Nailers earlier this month. A seventh-round pick by Pittsburgh (210th overall) in the 2008 NHL Draft, D'Agostino compiled 72 points (25g-47a) and 80 PIM in 132 games during four seasons at Cornell University (2009-13).
In 11 games this year with the Penguins, Ruopp has posted 18 penalty minutes. A rookie from Zehner, Saskatchewan, Ruopp started the season with the Nailers, recording two assists and 21 PIM in nine games. Prior to beginning his pro career, the 20-year old played with the Prince Albert Raiders (WHL) from 2010-13 and compiled three goals, 31 assists and 395 PIM in 214 contests. Originally a 2011 third-round draft pick (84th overall) of the Phoenix Coyotes, Ruopp was acquired by the Pittsburgh Penguins on June 22, 2012.
