Penguins to meet Philadelphia in East Division Finals

WILKES-BARRE, Pennsylvania -- The American Hockey League announced tonight the playoff dates for the 2005 Calder Cup East Division Final series between the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and Philadelphia Phantoms.

The best-of-seven series between the Penguins and Phantoms will begin this Wednesday, May 4 at 7:05 p.m. at Philadelphia's Wachovia Center. Game Two of the series will be played on Friday, May 6 at 7:05 p.m. at the Wachovia Center.

The series then shifts to Wilkes-Barre for Games Three and Four on Saturday, May 7 (7:05 p.m.) and Tuesday, May 10 (7:05 p.m.), respectively, at the Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza. If necessary, a Game Five would be played in Philadelphia on either Thursday, May 12 or Friday, May 13. Game Six would be played in Wilkes-Barre on Saturday, May 14 (7:05 p.m.) and a Game Seven would be played back in Philadelphia on either Monday, May 16 or Tuesday, May 17.

The defending Eastern Conference champion Penguins defeated the heavily-favored Binghamton Senators, 2-1, today in Game Six of the East Division Semifinal series. The Penguins, who lost the first two games of the series, won the last four games and became the 15th team in AHL history to rally from a two games to none deficit to win a best-of-seven series. The Phantoms also won their East Division Semifinal series in six games as they defeated the Norfolk Admirals 4-2 tonight at the Wachovia Center.

The Penguins finished the regular season in fourth-place in the East Division with a 39-27-7-7 record (92 points), while the Phantoms finished second in the division with a 48-25-3-4 record (103 points).

The Penguins finished the 2004-05 regular season with a 6-1-0-3 record in 10 meetings against Philadelphia. The Penguins were 4-0-0-1 at home against the Phantoms and had a 2-1-0-2 record in five visits to Philadelphia.

Overall, the Penguins are 24-28-3-4-3 (w-l-t-otl-sol) lifetime against the Phantoms in 62 regular season meetings over the past six seasons. The Penguins are 12-15-1-2-1 lifetime against the Phantoms at the Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza and are 12-13-2-2-2 against the Phantoms in 31 trips to Philadelphia. The Penguins have a lifetime record of 12-12-2-2-2 against the Phantoms at the Wachovia Spectrum and a 0-1-0-0 record against them at the Wachovia Center.

This will be second straight year and the third time in the last five years that the two teams have met in the second round of the playoffs. The Penguins are 2-0 against the Phantoms in the postseason. Last year, the Penguins defeated the Phantoms in six games in the East Division Finals and defeated Philadelphia in six games in the Western Conference Semifinals during the 2000-2001 season.

The Penguins have announced that individual tickets for the three home playoff games (Games D-F) against the Phantoms will go on sale tomorrow, Monday, May 2 at 12 noon.

Tickets can be purchased at the Wachovia Arena Box Office, and at all Ticketmaster locations and telephone outlets. Payment accepted at the Arena Box Office includes cash, American Express, Discover, MasterCard and Visa. The Wachovia Arena Box Office does not accept telephone orders or personal checks. There is no service fee for tickets purchased at the Wachovia Arena Box Office. Single-game ticket prices for the three games in the series are $34.00 (Yellow zone), $24.00 (Red zone), $20.50 (Gold zone) and $16.75 (Blue zone).
