Penguins Recall John McCarron from Wheeling

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today they have recalled forward John McCarron from the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL). Additionally, forward Matia Marcantuoni has been assigned to Wheeling by the Pittsburgh Penguins (NHL).

McCarron has appeared in 29 games for Wheeling this season, earning seven goals and 11 assists for 18 points. The rookie also leads the Nailers in shots (101).

The Macomb, Mich. native joined the Penguins organization this year after four seasons at Cornell University. In his time at Cornell, McCarron tallied 24 goals and 40 assists for 64 points in 131 games. McCarron was a two-time captain for the Big Red, becoming the first Cornell player since 2001 to earn the honor before his senior season (Stephen Bâby).

Marcantuoni was reassigned from Wheeling to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton by Pittsburgh on Dec. 10. The second-year pro earned three points (0G-3A) in four games with Wheeling this year.
